Deckle edge cards trace their roots back to traditional paper-making rather than sports collectibles. The term “deckle” comes from the wooden frame used to form sheets of handmade paper, which naturally produced soft, rough, and uneven edges as the pulp settled. Over time, those imperfect edges became associated with craftsmanship and fine art. Photographers later adopted the look as well, either by tearing photo paper or using specialized tools to mimic that same feathered edge, giving prints a more artistic and premium feel.
